What passes for science has devolved into confirmation bias and falsifying one's opponents rather than honest intellectual inquiry. Driven by path dependence and funding, idiotic ideas like dark matter and string theory not only persist, but are thriving as the modern equivalent of Ptolemaic epicycles. Proponents claim that even falsified studies warrant another, making it practically impossible to apply Popperian falsification. Meanwhile, string theorists or dark matter "experts" scoff at the preceived lack of evidence for competing theories, a detriment which they have contributed to by sucking the air out of research for alternatives to incumbent beliefs (conventional wisdom). But,all is not lost: Bayesian probability and positive/negative attractor states can provide a quantitative "weight of evidence" score/metric to assess existing factual evidence for any idea/belief/theory and objectively weigh all known factual evidence for and against, leveling the playing field for a pairwise comparison of both an incumbent idea and viable alternatives.
