Research project ideas we listened far better than we speak in it shouldn't that tell us something and my proof of that is in native tongues. We can hear them and understand them before we can speak them as fluently or at all you know I've now been in the paul and Thailand for several months, and I barely spoke a word of thai. Could start to understand patterns in speech especially inflection up down sideways and believe it or not I was thinking about this as I was listening to a crow call across a cross a distance and realising that it's really just in patterns don't have language or they do have language it's not what we think of. But what our languages just patterns and what what a pity mises that more than anything else large language models it doesn't actually matter what the words are. It matters what we agree that we interpret those patterns as and machines are great at pattern recognition. They're not conscious and neither are we. Put another way these are just level given these constructs 1st of all like god and and and a soul and consciousness these are just levels. And the analogy here is like a self driving car what's the different all cars to some extent our self driving in the sense that if you know they have a degree of autonomy that cars a generation ago did not and so what is an autonomous vehicle let's put this way autonomous vehicle. Because that includes things like safety features like adaptive cruise control and stopping cars have cruise control for generations and so to some extent cars have been autonomous. For generations are they the same as today's you know self driving cars no of course not just like in a language model you could say has a primitive form of consciousness if we define consciousness very clearly. And I don't mean in a skewed way just very deliberately then it's just like these levels of autonomous vehicles are levels of things reality has levels if hell has rings. If there are if there are levels of helene levels of heaven and every religion believes in that no religion says there is simply one level of anything same thing with consciousness so this is given the patterns that that these represent these are just patterns of how we evolved this is how we evolve we evolved from more simple patterns to more complex patterns that s time that s sequencing, that s literally evolution that given repeated trials of anything you're gonna get more complex evolution same thing with AI that s exactly what's going to happen with AI. Just look at a biology you have certain life forms like bacteria and even mammals like rats that reproduce rapidly and there have been generational experiments that show just how rapidly things can evolve when you can when you can iterate that's what we're talking about here iteration and so that s the same thing that's gonna happen with happen with computers with AI all of these things iterate. And and essentially what we call them through our consciousness has improved self driving vehicles consciousness has improved a rock consciousness maybe not so much. It's static so then we can talk about the 1st bifurcation which is between static and dynamic processes and given a dynamic process it involves it it. You know maybe the thing that is more interesting is you have these organisms like octopus octopi which remained relatively unchanged for a long time so then you get some kind of interesting like randomness well considered considering that we we think of occupy is smart they just evolved more rapidly in a certain way but I don't know of any octopus building quantum computers and so there you get these these levels okay and just threw random genetic luck in biology and in in what we call artificial systems but keep in mind those systems we create so there is another kind of constructed um artificial construct there but still, you know we can we can talk about conscious AI with a common frame of reference like this. #research #project #idea #explore
